Week 3!
Monday - Toddler Time has begun again at the library so our Monday's have become our Travel Tuesdays. I never take my camera so I don't have pictures..maybe I should take it one day though so we can have some memories. He definitely missed it the past couple of months..he loves to sing the songs and do all the movements, read books, and of course shake the librarian and her helpers' hands :)
Tuesday - Today we tried a project I want to do with my students this year for our Weather theme. Cloud painting!! Super easy too - just mix equal parts school glue and shaving cream. Then spoon it onto blue construction paper. When it dries it makes puffy 3D clouds! He couldn't resist playing with the goop when he was finished :)
Wednesday - Nathan found his alligator squirt gun that his Moomaw bought for him awhile back so we filled it up and headed outside for a water gun fight. He cheated though because he wouldn't let me squirt him so he had fun chasing me around the yard for awhile :)
Thursday - I was really excited for this science experiment because I had a lava lamp as a kid and I loved that thing! So when I saw a homemade lava lamp on Pinterest I immediately pinned it. You're supposed to fill a clear bottle a third of the way with vegetable oil and the rest of the way with water. Add a few drops of food coloring. Then slowly add 4 broken pieces of an Alka Seltzer tablet and watch the bubbles start to form. Ours didn't turn out so pretty...I think maybe I put too much vegetable oil and that's why it was so yellow. Oh well - it was still pretty cool.
Friday - I thought today we would try colored bubbles since I've done that with my students before and they enjoyed it. Nathan picked blue so that's what we made. He blew them and I tried to catch them on a piece of paper so I could show him the blue bubble prints they make but it was too windy and I couldn't catch many. He still had fun just blowing them...and of course squeezing the food color out! We also decided to swing since we hadn't done that in awhile.
Week 4!
Monday - Again today was Toddler Time at the library. No pics buts lots of fun :)
Tuesday - Another neat idea I found on Pinterest that I want to do with my students in September. Tape off the child's name on a piece of white cardstock with blue painter's tape. Unfortunately I did not plan ahead so I didn't have painters tape. I had to use regular tape which was not so great when peeling the tape off later. But then you let the child finger paint (or rather hand smear) the whole paper. When you peel the tape off it reveals their name in white with their nice paint job in the background. Nathan started nicely just dipping his fingers in the paint and dotting the paper until I showed him how it's really done. Then he was all over it!
Wednesday - Today we got the sprinkler ball out of the garage that his Nona got for him last summer. He was very hesitant to get close to it at first - I don't think he remembered it. So he made mama go with him. Once I asked him to go kick it he was okay with getting close to it and getting wet :)
Thursday - As I write this post I'm realizing how many of our experiments and projects we try seem to fail! Lol. Here was another one of those. Rainbow ice ball painting. Another Pinterest idea. Technically you're supposed to do this in the winter so maybe that's why it didn't work?? You fill up a balloon with water and freeze it overnight. The next day you cut the balloon off which leaves you with a big ball of ice. Then you add food coloring to a few teaspoons of water, mix it up, and paint the ice ball. Well we did that with many different colors but the color did not stick like in the picture. I finally got frustrated enough that I told him to just dump the colors on the ice. It looked pretty for a second and then the color just melted off. He didn't really want to paint anyway. He just wanted to touch the ice!
Friday - Lately he's been pretending that the laundry backseat is his "carseat." So I told him when Lucas takes a nap we can go in the grass and I'll push you in your car. He was pretty excited - he took the laundry basket, threw it in the grass, sat in it, then got out and headed for his truck that he likes to drive across the yard. I said "Don't you want me to drive you in your car?" He said "No." Too much other fun things to do outside I guess!
